What's Actually in the Bottle
Two federally funded case series ran 60 supplements through a mass spectrometer and compared the results against the label. Most labels were wrong, including 83% of weight-loss products sold with military discounts. But the test asked a narrower question than the headline suggests, and the gap between presence and potency is where the real problem lives.

An audit of 2.5 million biomedical papers found references pointing at studies that do not exist have risen more than twelvefold since 2023. The number is smaller than the headlines suggest, and a citation that does not exist is the one kind a machine can catch. The dangerous version is the citation that resolves.

Standard deviation, standard error and a 95% confidence interval get drawn as the same little vertical line, and they answer completely different questions. One of them shrinks automatically as you add data. Worse is the failure underneath: counting 300 cells from one dish as n = 300 manufactures confidence that was never in the experiment.

Counter-IED jammers worked exactly as designed. They made radio receivers deaf, and the bombs stopped using radio: command wire, pressure plates, switches with almost no metal in them. A countermeasure is a bet about a mechanism, and the bet can be entirely correct and still stop paying.

In American standards the phrase "safe room" belongs to FEMA, and it is defined against 250 mph wind and a 15-pound board flying at 100 mph. There is nothing in it about a person. The standards that cover human threats are different documents with different names, and the number that actually decides whether a room works is time.

Storage headlines are written in megawatts, but grid planners pay in accredited capacity. In PJM's next capacity auction a 4-hour battery is credited at 59 percent of nameplate and a 10-hour at 78. In Texas, a 1-hour battery is worth 13.71 percent in the summer evening window, and 1-hour and 2-hour units are most of what got built.

Magnesium is the most reasonable-sounding thing on the supplement shelf. In 2025 it got the trial it deserved: 155 people, placebo controlled. The result cleared significance by a hair, every other measure came back null, the capsule held 1.5 g of glycine nobody separated out, and nobody's magnesium was ever measured. A formulator reads it.

In 2023 an autonomous lab reported making 41 novel compounds in 17 days with no human hands. In January 2026 the paper was corrected: the number is now 36, the word "novel" is gone from the title and abstract, and the closing line no longer says "discovery." A spectroscopist reads the diff, and the measurement step where automation broke.

A testing lab published what came through its door: of the human cell lines sent in for identity checks in 2024 and 2025, a few percent were not the line on the vial. Then the authors wrote one sentence about their own sample that turns the number into a floor. A measurement scientist on the one measurement nobody thinks is a measurement.

The answer to GPS jamming that shipped in 2026 isn't a better GPS receiver. It's a passive sensor that reads the magnetic pattern of the Earth's crust and matches it to a map, sold as unjammable, unspoofable and undetectable. All three hold up.
