The Contamination You Cannot See
Mycoplasma leaves the medium clear, has no cell wall for penicillin to attack, and passes standard filters. Three safety nets, none of them catching it. Then two researchers found it by reading RNA-seq data that hundreds of labs had already deposited in a public archive for entirely unrelated reasons.

In May 2005 near Benkovac, four detectors and four Croatian deminers worked four lanes. Two held magnetic soil from Obrovac, two held neutral soil from Sisak. The operators showed no measurable spread. The dirt did. Ground compensation is a trade, not a fix, and there is a whole part of an international standard devoted to characterizing the soil before you grade a detector.

Autonomous perimeter patrol is a standard line item in estate proposals now. Part 107 still requires a human able to see the aircraft with unaided vision for the entire flight, and the only way around that is a waiver somebody else holds. Meanwhile Remote ID makes the drone broadcast its own position and its operator's, once per second.

UL 9540A certified, UL 9540A listed, UL 9540A compliant: none of those are things. It is a test method with no mark and no listing. What it produces is a report whose numbers set your separation distances and your fire protection, and the method itself changed twice in about a year.

A 2023 Science paper reported that taurine declines with age and that restoring it extended life in mice, and a supplement category formed within a week. In 2025 the National Institute on Aging looked again in three human cohorts, plus monkeys and mice, and found taurine flat or rising. A second group found no association at all. The trials that do exist measured blood pressure and triglycerides, which is a different claim entirely.

Machine learning for catalyst discovery runs on experimental data, and somebody has to produce that data at a bench. Four laboratories agreed on a protocol, used identical catalyst batches, and ran the same CO2 hydrogenation. Inside each lab the input-output relationships were clear. Pooled across all four they stopped being statistically significant, and the culprit was as mundane as how the reactor was stirred.

Every cell biologist is told to skip the outer ring of a 96-well plate. One group measured what is actually happening: 35 percent lower signal in the outer wells, reaching three rows in, with the plate brand mattering more than the technique. A second study found the effect running the other way.

A metal detector responds to metal. Ground-penetrating radar responds to a change in the ground. Neither one responds to explosive. In Cambodia that gap meant 191,737,707 pieces of scrap dug up to clear 89,327 mines, and a 2026 machine-learning benchmark just restated the same warning.

EIA reports 52 GW of operating US battery storage and never mentions energy. The same workbook holds 142 GWh, which is 2.75 hours, and the fleet splits into 257 one-hour units and 261 four-hour units. The planned sheet has no energy column at all.
